Krefeld/Monchengladbach/Venlo. The INTERREG project “euregio campus – Limburg/Niederrhein” is slowly coming to an end. At the event “Connect the euregio campus! – The foundation for the knowledge region has been laid. What’s next?” at Campus Cubus in Krefeld, project manager Prof. Dr. Angelika Krehl reviewed three and a half project years and drew a positive conclusion. Mayor of Krefeld Frank Meyer, Mayor of Mönchengladbach Felix Heinrichs and Mayor of Venlo Antoin Scholten emphasized the importance of the project for the region between the Rhine and Meuse.

The goal of the “euregio campus – Limburg/Lower Rhine” project, which will run until the end of 2022, is to overcome the borders of the German-Dutch region and to think about education, research, work and life across borders. With workshops, innovation forums and other offers for students, pupils and citizens, attention was paid to the resources of the cross-border region. In addition, the cooperation between the Euregional universities, the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences and Fontys Venlo, was intensified. Students of the Faculty of Economics can now spend a semester abroad at Fontys. The integration of other departments is planned. A dual degree is to start in the 2023/2024 winter semester.

Another main goal of the project: the connection of the students to the region. Numerous local companies introduced themselves to the students at events and trade fairs and presented entry opportunities and career paths. “Its a lot to do. Many students are interested in the cross-border opportunities. We are working on a follow-up application to further strengthen the knowledge region. Angelika Krehl at the event.

The INTERREG project “euregio campus – Limburg/ Niederrhein”, which started on January 1, 2019, is being funded with a total of 1.8 million euros by the European Union, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Dutch province of Limburg. The project term ends on December 31, 2022. Project partners are the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, the Fontys University of Applied Sciences (Venlo), the cities of Krefeld, Mönchengladbach and Venlo as well as the business development agencies from Mönchengladbach and Krefeld.
