The elegant lady and renowned Slovak actress Emília Vášáryová is celebrating her eightieth birthday today. The audience remembers her mainly thanks to her great acting performance in Pelíšky, but as the vogue.cz portal stated, she should not have played in this film hit at all!

Slovak actress Emília Vášáryová belong together with sister Magda to the top in its field. Emília began to gravitate to acting as a child, when she devoted herself to amateur theater. And she also did well in gymnastics.

After graduating from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, she got a job at the Slovak National Theater. Even earlier, she stood in front of television cameras and made her film debut in The Umbrella of St.äPeter. She was brought to the fore by the film When the Cat Comes, where she played by her side actor Jan Werich.

Fans also know her through movies People from caravans, Fool’s Chronicle, Pelíšky, Beauty in Trouble or Horem pádem. It was for the last-named film that she won the Czech Lion for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Vášáryová is a woman of several faces in the films and her acting talent has been duly appreciated several times. In 1978, she was awarded the title of Deserved Artist, and in 2001 she was named Slovak Actress of the Century. Other important awards include Trilobit for the film Eva Nová or the Medal of Merit from Václav Havel.

The actress, who also played the grandmother Božena Hrubá in the miniseries Actor from Czech Television, had a long-term relationship with director Peter Mikulík, but the wedding did not end there. Nevertheless, she eventually married twice.

Her first husband was sports doctor Ivan Horský, with whom she has a son Tomáš. After that, Emília got together with a set designer, costume designer and pedagogue Milan Čorba, with whom she has another son, Juraj. However, great love was divided by death, and in 2013 Emília Vášáryová became a widow.
