Eintracht Frankfurt: Trapp spoils RB Leipzig the tour

RB Leipzig had a good home game, but couldn’t reward themselves against Eintracht Frankfurt (0-0). In addition to bad luck with aluminum, this was due to Kevin Trapp.

Not his only strong act: Kevin Trapp (left) saves against Konrad Laimer.

Even when it was 6-1 in Fürth, the best second-round team in the Bundesliga needed a while to be up to par – that’s how RB felt in the home game against SGE. In an initial phase that was very controlled by both sides, the Saxons were still the more active team with Kampl and Olmo instead of Haidara and Forsberg (both on the bench). Nkunku presented himself too sleepy when he had a good chance to shoot (10th).

First Hinteregger saves, then Alu twice

Three days after progressing in the Europa League against Real Betis, Eintracht had to wait a while for their first degree. Instead, she had her hands full defensively with Rode as a Sow replacement (yellow card suspension). Hinteregger cleared a Silva header off the line (22′), and a little later Trapp deflected a long-range shot from Simakan onto the post (26′).

He deflected Simakan’s shot to the post (26′), against Laimer he parried with an arm (62′): Kevin Trapp kept Eintracht 0-0. He wasn’t entirely flawless with his foot.

Had everything under control and was right with the personal penalties. Correct not to give Nkunku’s offside goal (45./+2) and not to rate Henrichs’ handball as a punishable offense (37.).

Frankfurt survived the pressure phase in Leipzig and eventually got beyond regular relief. However, RB hardly allowed anything, so Lindström’s cross pass on the counter – Borré couldn’t keep up that quickly – was still the best opportunity for the guests (37th). Leipzig had the next really good chances again: Laimer hit the crossbar from over 20 meters (41′), Nkunku then scored before the break – but only from an offside position (45’+2).

Trapp pulls his arm – Poulsen symbolically

Less than a minute after the restart, Olmo Trapp checked, RB continued to set the tone. But RB also remained wasteful. Nkunku gave up a shot in front of Trapp (52′), ten minutes later the Frankfurt goalkeeper parried by pulling his arm in a one-on-one with Laimer (62′).

Because Eintracht became more self-confident in this phase and Leipzig focused more on counterattacking, the encounter was more open after an hour. While the SGE really didn’t get beyond the beginnings, the Tedesco team only gave up in the last instance.

Nkunku sent substitute Poulsen through, who symbolically delayed several times in front of Trapp and finally played a bad pass (81st). Yes, Alu and yes, Trapp. But Leipzig stood in the way of its good performance above all itself.

RB, who remain ahead of Freiburg and thus (at least) fourth despite probably two points lost, travel to Dortmund on Saturday, April 2 (kick-off: 6.30 p.m.). Frankfurt previously receives Fürth (3.30 p.m.).
