Driver omission caused accident in Metro Tacubaya: FGJ

According to a series of expert reports, the Attorney General of Justice (FGJ) announced that an omission of the Metro driver, who collided on March 10 in the Tacubaya station, was the cause of the accident and for that fact an investigation folder was opened for Hypothesis of Wrongful Homicide and Injuries, against whom it is responsible.

In a virtual press conference, the FGJ spokesman, Ulises Lara, explained that the incident at the Tacubaya station “was the result of omissions in operation by the driver and the line regulator in the corresponding security processes.”

He noted that the expert opinion prepared by the Prosecutor’s Office, in which 12 specialties collaborated, coincides with that of the German company hired to prepare an opinion independently.

According to the opinion, when leaving the Tacubaya station in the direction of the Observatory, the driver of convoy 33 received alerts on his dashboard, so the security system responded by blocking itself automatically.

According to the Metro manual, the driver was required to brake the convoy by using the ramp parking maneuver.

The regulator of the line did not instruct the driver to carry out the maneuver, which implied that the convoy was stopped safely; on the contrary, he instructed him to move forward and due to this, the employee changed the driving mode from automatic piloting to manual with the authorization of the regulator. In that driving mode, there is no safety device, explained Ulises Lara.

“For eight minutes, different people entered and left the driver’s cabin, when the manuals indicate that manual and shod braking should be applied to each car at that time, in addition to vacating the train.

“According to the registration of the black box, in addition to the above, it was observed that the different maneuvers caused the friction of the air of the braking system to be lost, during those eight minutes, the control center post should again indicate that apply the parking brake on each car, evacuate the train, as well as warn the operator of convoy 38 that was at the Tacubaya station, which did not happen, “said the official.
