“Deposit Derek Chauvin $ 1.25 million” Abroad

The now-fired agent is held responsible for the death of a 46-year-old black suspect, George Floyd. The fatal arrest on May 25 in Minneapolis was filmed and sparked massive protests against police brutality and looting.

Chauvin is not in the courtroom in Minneapolis, but remains in the heavily guarded prison in Oak Park Heights, 25 miles east.

Chauvin is accused of not intentionally causing death, but the accusers do speak of murder. They’re talking about “second degree murder” in the US legal system. The perpetrator has the intention to kill, but without any premeditation. It may have 40 years in prison. He is also accused of causing death by acting dangerously against others in a malevolent state of mind without respect for human lives. Minnesota is talking about “third degree murder”. And Chauvin is also charged with manslaughter.

Chauvin, 44, kept Floyd pressed to his ground on his arrest by pressing his knee on Floyd’s neck. That lasted almost 9 minutes and the last 3 minutes Floyd showed no sign of life. The exact cause of death is still unclear, partly because Floyd had medical problems and possibly had taken drugs. But without the rough arrest, he would still be alive.

Whether it was a racist motive is not yet clear.
