Since the first case was identified on March 3, Chile has counted 99,688 infected people, 1,054 of whom have lost their lives. Most of them were elderly people with varied morbidities.

The Chilean authorities stressed, however, that half of the cases of Covid-19 in the last few weeks came in the age group under 40, patients who currently represent 12 percent of hospitalized cases.
