Covid-19: in Côte d’Ivoire, the record makes a worrying jump and sends the Abidjanis to the Neem leaves

Abidjanis enter the temptation to flee to the village or to eat Nem leaves.

The Ivorian Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene announces, Sunday, March 29, 2020, the detection of 39 new cases of people suffering from Coronavirus disease. This now brings the number of patients to 140 by eliminating the three cases of recovery. In less than two weeks, there has been an exponential rise in the number of infected people in Côte d’Ivoire. The psychosis caused movements of people and a flight to the villages for several city dwellers.

Clearly, Abidjan empties, before applying its isolation from the rest of other cities. Those who are there are increasingly observing containment measures. For people with liberal activity, the working hours have changed. Only to take advantage of the situation, the traders, them, rub their hands with the marketing of products for preventive use such as masks, soaps and hydro-alcoholic gels. They are so popular that there is surprising speculation. An attitude that prompted the Ministry of Commerce to deploy a team on the ground to punish any trader who indulges in an increase in these products used to protect themselves from Covid 19.

Faced with the rise in cases of contagion, the Abidjanians have flocked to the neem (or nime) leaves, for a week, proof that the remedy of Professor Didier Raoult, has indeed crossed the continents. According to them, this species has the same reactions as the anti-malarial chloroquine. “If Chloroquine heals, it’s because the Neem leaves can protect against the Covid -19,” says Lazard Kouamé, a mechanic by trade. At the edge of the arteries of the capitals, it is now common to see street vendors of Neem leaves. They accost users to offer them, according to them, “the miracle plant”.
