The psychologist of the “Supernanny” program was quickly known to the public. But also the children who participated in them, for the worst reasons: they threw tantrums, threw objects, slammed the door. The psychologist appeared in the role of educator in the families’ homes to show parents how to tame desperate situations. And the more ill-mannered the child was and the more desperate the parents were, the more reason the psychologist would have to intervene and the more arguments the television would have to invoke the pedagogical function of the program. The same model has been replicated in more than two dozen countries. But only in Portugal, the Public Ministry (MP) brought a special action to protect the personality against SIC, the producer Warner Bros, and the parents of the children involved.
