The World Health Organization emergency chief said widespread testing for the new coronavirus is crucial and that countries should not be blamed for reporting a higher number of cases.
He also called for a shift to public health strategies that allow us to “live with this virus” until a vaccine emerges.
Comments by Dr. Michael Ryan suggest that the virus first identified in China late last year will remain for a while.
“At this point, no one can predict how long this pandemic will last,” said Ryan at a WHO press conference. “We are entering and we are heading towards an uncertain future. … Many countries around the world are just beginning the cycle of this pandemic. “
Ryan called for moving from measures designed to “dissipate the heat” of the pandemic to those aimed at “much more specific targets, which will, at the very least, allow us to live with this virus until we can develop a vaccine to get rid of it. A vaccine against the virus is not planned for at least 12 to 18 months.
The new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms for most people, but for some, especially the elderly and people with existing health conditions, it can cause more serious illness or death.
While governments in many countries are imposing national confinements, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has acknowledged that travel and exit restrictions “affect individual human rights”.
“But it’s a choice we have to make,” he said. “That is to say, to have collective security, to be a better society and to fight the virus, we give our freedom, you know, for a while.”
It should be understood that there is no cure approved by the WHO. the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of “false hope, small, non-randomized, observational studies.” These studies “will not give us the answers we need,” said WHO.
We only have anecdotal studies to support outlandish claims. Recognized and respected experts are skeptical about these famous studies that do not appear in reputable medical journals
One can even ask the question how a country like India which abounds in so much potentialities (human and financial) has confined more than a billion people instead of using the much vaunted drug !!!!
No power uses this much-touted drug. China has used it but has not made any recommendations. China to start containing this virus due to aggressive social distancing measures
