Coronavirus in Belgium: 90 infections per day, a figure on the rise

There were an average of 90 cases per day compared to 88 the previous week.

PFor the third consecutive day, the number of new infections with the new coronavirus increased slightly in Belgium. During the period from July 3 to 9, there were on average 90 cases per day against 88 the previous week, an increase of 2%, said Sciensano on Monday.

The upsurge mainly occurred in the province of Antwerp, in Brussels and in the south of West Flanders, it is said. In total, Belgium had 62,707 confirmed cases since the start of the crisis, 101 more than the total communicated on Sunday.

But the total number of Covid-19 cases is greatly underestimated in our country, due to the lack of availability of tests at the start of the epidemic, which had forced to screen only the most serious cases. Per 100,000 population, there have been 10.9 cases in Belgium in the past 14 days.

For the past few weeks, Sciensano has not published any more data on the number of hospital admissions and deaths on Sunday or Monday.
