“Corona doesn’t change that”: Preetz is still looking forward to fresh millions

Hertha BSC has already received 224 million euros from its investor – and the next three-digit million amount is said to have been announced. Hertha manager Michael Preetz confirms the money blessing. As a result, Berliners enjoy unusual security in the Corona crisis.

Manager Michael Preetz of Bundesliga soccer team Hertha BSC has confirmed that there are talks about investing millions more by investor Lars Windhorst. It was recently speculated that the businessman wanted to pump another 150 million euros into the club despite the corona crisis in the second half of the year. “We are in an exchange,” said Preetz on Sunday at Sport1, “whether it might be the right way to make additional funds available, especially in this phase.” So far, the investment by Windhorsts Tennor Holding B.V. to 224 million euros, in return the club sold 49.9 percent of the shares in Hertha BSC KGaA. A Windhorst spokesman recently said on SID request: “We stand by the commitments and plans that have been made. The Corona pandemic will not change that either.”

In general, Preetz praised the collaboration with Windhorst. As a result, the club is in a better position than other clubs. “I think we are absolutely certain of that,” said Preetz at Sky on Sunday, “which enables us to master the impact of the crisis and to make good decisions with regard to the next season.” Meanwhile, Preetz praised the work of the German Football League (DFL) and DFL boss Christian Seifert in the corona crisis. “I think that Christian Seifert does an outstanding job at the top of the DFL, especially in these difficult times,” said Preetz in a one-two.

Preetz absolutely agrees that Seifert called on the clubs to hold back in the public debate about playing possible ghost games. “It is not very helpful if everyone submits any ideas or water level reports,” said the longtime Hertha manager.

The club still had to be patient with the Arne Friedrich staff. The ex-professional is to be promoted from performance manager to sports director. “He has to sort and decide for himself. It will take a few more weeks,” said Preetz.
