Can’t pass the technical inspection because the view is obscured by the air freshener and the phone stand? – Road and law – Car

This summer, Ieva visited the CSDD technical inspection station closest to her place of residence, where she received, in her opinion, an absurd reprimand. A significant disadvantage was the phone stand attached to the windshield and the flavors in the rearview mirror. This kit is rated “2” and cannot be successfully inspected. Ieva is puzzled, because, as she says, she is a conscientious driver – she does not hold the phone while driving, the device is used for navigation purposes, placed in a stand.

Eve is also confused by the description of the deficiency found in the issued technical inspection document: “Visibility obstructions in the windscreen area that can be cleaned by the windscreen wipers.”

The “Bez Tabu” team looked at the car showroom in a parking lot full of vehicles near the supermarket and found that many vehicles were equipped with flavorings in the rearview mirror and / or a telephone stand in the middle of the windshield.

Drivers who do not use such items also indicated that they interfere with visibility, but consider a rating of “2” to be too severe a sanction. Drivers, on the other hand, who use all these things in just such a position, said that they had never received any reprimands about it at the technical inspection station.

CSDD: It affects traffic safety

Ieva Bērziņa, CSDD representative – If there is both a phone holder and impressively sized air fresheners in the field of vision, it affects traffic safety. With all this, the driver in road traffic is not 100 percent. All this interferes with visibility. [..] If the visual disturbances in the car showroom were the only defects, it is likely that the employee of the inspection station would have made only a verbal reprimand.

Jānis Vanks, an expert of the Safe Driving School (DBS), also believes how such a bouquet of objects in such a location interferes with visibility in traffic.

Jānis Vanks, DBS expert – The driver must receive a very large amount of information from the road. Anything that interferes with the collection of this information is, of course, dangerous. The perfumes can also be installed elsewhere, for example, on the handles on the ceiling, on the side. I call for a great deal of attention to be paid to the windscreen, as it is the main source of information.

The police do not see the problem

Law enforcement officers Andris Locs, Deputy Head of the Traffic Monitoring and Coordination Bureau of the National Police (VP), say when stopping cars on the road, whether or not they are located in the windshield zone. registrars who help to capture evidence in traffic cases are not banned, are not obstructive, and the police do not and will not punish anyone in any way in the future. These are legal devices that can be installed by the driver.
