BUAP Recycling will take place on May 17 at CCU

This May 17, 2022, at the University Cultural Complex (CCU), the BUAP recyclingin which batteries and electronic items will be received, as well as cigarette butts and Styrofoam.

In a statement, the Meritorious Autonomous University of Puebla (BUAP) reported that it will be receiving materials in parking lot 5, located in front of the CCU Auditoriuma schedule from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Los materials to be received in the BUAP recycling are:

  • HDPE packaging
  • PET
  • glass
  • metal and aluminum cans
  • cardboard
  • paper
  • caps
  • tetrapack
  • electronic devices
  • batteries
  • batteries
  • tires
  • cigarette butts
  • clean styrofoam containers

Objects that may have a second use, such as clothing, shoes, toys, books and working appliances, will also be collected.

In exchange for these materials, by way of barter, germinated avocado, jamaica and cempasuchil plants in the university nursery where students from the Faculty of Biological Sciences participate.

Also organic fertilizer, photo frames made of recyclable materials, some pots, ashtrays made from pulp made from cigarette butts and new notebooks in exchange for used ones.

What will be done with the BUAP recycling materials?

Diego Ariel Riva, director of Environmental managementexplained that this activity will take place within the framework of International Recycling Day.

He commented that the equivalent of all recoverable materials will be delivered to the University Center for Social Participation of the institution, to support its Community Schools program that benefits children and young people with limited resources.

The caps will be delivered to the Nueva Esperanza Foundation and, in the case of electronics and tires, to the companies that carry out this type of recycling.

In addition to being a collection point for recyclable materials, the BUAP recycling center will also be a forum of various cultural activities and workshops on waste management, composting, painting and recovery of materials for reuse.

At the end of the day, in collaboration with researchers from the BUAP Institute of Sciences, an evaluation will be made of the volume of materials received and the environmental impact they represent, in terms of carbon dioxide and methane gas emissions, as well as the amount that does not went to the landfill.

The director of Environmental Management reported that this activity is expected to be repeated at least once a month or every two months, so that society can turn in their waste and generate a habit and awareness.
