Boris Johnson must fix the price crisis or lose the next election

Fix the price crisis or lose the next election

BORIS Johnson’s government has been stuck in Partygate paralysis for almost six months.

So, finally, this week there is a chance to move on after the release of Sue Gray’s report on the joys of Downing Street wine and cakes during lockdown.

This investigation, while necessary, has been a huge distraction, as has the Met’s own £500,000 investigation.

However, there may still be more blood spilled on the rug at No10 before the saga is over, though barring a bomb it seems unlikely to trigger a major leadership challenge for the prime minister.

Durham Police are still rightly questioning Sir Keir Starmer for his own illicit beer and curry on his knees.

But the prime minister must move decisively beyond Partygate and confront the worst cost-of-living crisis in a generation.

As skyrocketing inflation pushes food and energy bills beyond reach, voters are more concerned with where the next pound will come from than who served the drinks at number 10.

Boris Johnson must focus on lowering taxes and reining in spiraling prices.

Otherwise, voters will never trust him again.

Derailing one’s future

MILITANT rail unions risk slitting their throats if they ruin the summer with strikes.

The entire industry has been a financial black hole for years.

Taxpayers spent billions of pounds to keep empty trains running during the pandemic.

Billions more are now being spent on largely deserted railcars as people work from home.

The government urgently needs to stop these huge losses and the strike will only make them worse.

And the public, who accept this bill, will rightly be outraged if union barons interrupt England and Wimbledon international football matches.

As Transportation Secretary Grant Shapps warns, the industry is already on “life support.”

This senseless interruption could prove financially fatal.

Your cash for Lefties

WHEN Priti Patel announced her Rwanda plan for immigrants, we all knew there would be massive opposition.

But today we reveal that organizations determined to block the scheme have blithely pocketed £7.7m in public money over the last four years.

So when we see leftist lawyers kicking immigrants off planes, let’s not forget it.

We are the fools who pay them to do it.
