“Black presence” at the Uffizi where from tomorrow they will be “virtually” exhibited alongside the home collection, works in which colored, historical, biblical and mythological characters are the protagonists. On the day of the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America, the Florentine museum proposes a double social appointment: on the Tik Tok platform, from 8 pm, Justin Randolph Thompson, director and co-founder of the Black History Month Florence, festival dedicated to black culture organized annually in Florence, in a walk through the corridors of the museum he will tell some works, also focusing on the instances of racial equality recently returned to the limelight. Following, on Facebook, from 9 pm, always live from the Uffizi, the multi-instrumentalist of Burkina Faso Gabin Dabirè will perform in a concert with traditional African instruments in front of Piero di Cosimo’s “Perseo who releases Andromeda”. To complete the “Black Presence” event will be a series of eight videos published on Facebook every Saturday where Thompson will illustrate in detail each painting of the exhibition, including the portraits of the kings of Abyssinia and Ethiopia made in the 16th century by Cristofano dell ‘Altissimo commissioned by Cosimo I de’ Medici, the Adoration of the Magi by Albrecht Dürer, in which one of the three kings has African traits, the trio of commoners immortalized by the Flemish Justus Suttermans in the Madonna Domenica delle Cascine, the Cecca of Pratolino and Pietro Moro.
