Big protest in London and Berlin, Monday Amsterdam | Inland

In Berlin too, hundreds of people took to the streets to demonstrate. The actions follow protests in many US cities over the death of George Floyd. He died after being arrested by a police officer who has since been arrested.

The protesters in Europe are demanding an end to the racism of the American police.

Hundreds of people also gathered at the US Embassy in Berlin. There they chanted lyrics that are also used in US demonstrations, such as “Justice for George Floyd.”

Amsterdam

The same protest will be held on Dam Square in Amsterdam on Monday. The demonstration is an initiative of the collective Kick Out Zwarte Piet in collaboration with Black Queer & Trans Resistance NL. According to the organizers “this is reminiscent of similar events on the home soil. Like #MitchHenriquez who was choked by police officers five years ago during his arrest in The Hague. ”

They further say that “institutional racist violence against black people is a problem that also occurs in the Netherlands and the rest of Europe.”

A spokesman for the municipality of Amsterdam confirms to De Telegraaf that no maximum number of demonstrators has been recorded. Under the Public Events Act, Mayor Femke Halsema can impose regulations or restrictions on the demonstration in advance, for example to protect health, in the interest of traffic and to combat or prevent disorder. Currently, this has not been opted for, according to the spokesman.

“Wear mouth mask”

A spokeswoman for the organization says that the demonstration has been registered with the municipality and that the number of demonstrators is not bound by the ban on gathering until June 1. However, protesters are called upon to keep a distance of 1.5 meters in accordance with the corona measures, to wear mouth masks and, if necessary, to bring gloves and disinfectant gel and to stay at home with colds.
