Merdeka.com – An asteroid measuring 71 meters approached Earth on February 4, 2022. Researcher from the BRIN Space Research Center, Andi Pangerang said that the asteroid, known as 2022 AA, was moving at a speed of 13,200 km/hour as it passed near Earth.
“Asteroid 2022 AA will pass near Earth on February 4, 2022 at 21.16 UT or February 5, 2022 at 04.16 WIB, with a distance of 2,542,000 km from Earth. The asteroid measuring 71 meters is moving at a speed of 13,200 km / h as it passes near Earth. This distance is still larger than the roche limit,” Andi explained in a written statement quoted on Sunday (1/30/2022).
Andi explains the “roche limit” is the minimum distance of a celestial object to be able to defend itself so as not to break into pieces.
“This condition is because the tidal force experienced by the asteroid is the same as the Earth’s gravitational force,” he added.

Main Expert Researcher at the BRIN Space Research Center, Clara Yono Yatini, confirmed that Asteroid 2022 AA will pass near Earth safely and harmless to humans.
“There is no effect on human life,” he explained.
He explained that the size of Asteroid 2022 AA is not large and the Earth is not affected at all by the passage of this asteroid.
“There is also no effect on space weather, because generally space weather is influenced mainly by the sun, in addition to high-energy particles and the magnetic field in the space between the Sun and Earth,” he concluded.
The asteroid was only discovered on January 1, 2022. Asteroid 2022 AA belongs to the Apollo asteroid family because the asteroid’s average distance is greater than the Earth’s average distance to the Sun.
