The Easter holidays officially start this Friday evening with good weather expected for the first weekend. And yet, we will have to resist the temptation to travel unnecessarily, even for a single day. The authorities rely on the common sense of citizens, while strengthening controls. This will be the case in particular in the North Sea.
Police checks are planned in the stations, at the exit of the main roads and in the heart of the municipalities of the Coast. Violators will be fined 250 euros. They will have to go home, that is, to their main home.
Checks in apartment blocks
“There will also be checks in the blocks of flats which are mainly second homes, checks at the entrance and exit of department stores to find out if the consumer lives in this town.“, warns Carl Decaluwé, the governor of West Flanders.
On the spot, each citizen is obliged to stay in one and only one commune, except displacement qualified as essential, of course. Day tourists would be easily identified on the basis of their residence.
We must follow the injunctions of the authorities
On the other hand, it would not be easy to distinguish owners of second homes who have escaped control at the entrance to the city. Some owners have occupied their second home for weeks or months.
“Some people may be trying to eat at all the racks, to get all the benefits. But again, if we are to get out of the crisis, we must follow the authorities’ orders“, continues Carl Decaluwé.
Those who are currently staying at sea, whether in a first or second residence, must remain there until the containment is lifted. A measure applied in all the municipalities of the country.
