Aperam South America to invest US$120mn in operations in Brazil

Stainless steelmaker Aperam South America will invest 588 million reais (US$120 million) in its operations in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais.

Aperam, the leading stainless steel producer in Latin America, will use most of the investment to update the entire hot strip rolling process at the Timóteo plant, with the acquisition of a new boiler and the modernization of all electrical and automation, the state government said in a statement.

In the meantime, investment in Aperam BioEnergia’s operations will go towards maintaining the sustainable production of charcoal, seedlings and seeds developed with advanced forest breeding technology.

The company has been investing in its Minas Gerais units since last year to modernize them and allow the production of green steel, using charcoal.
