Now he is openly flirting with the idea of trying to be elected president in 2024. During the interview, Fauci is asked if he will continue in the role of director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases if Trump is re-elected.

He is also asked if he has confidence in Trump’s ability to respond to the corona pandemic, if it remains a threat, or if other similar crisis situations arise.
– If you look at the history and what was the response to that administration, I think the best you can say is that it was not optimal. And I think history will speak for itself about that, says Fauci.
Fauci has headed the Infection Control Institute since 1984 under seven US presidents. He also held a leadership position in the team the Trump administration put together to deal with the corona pandemic in the spring of 2020.
