The passport had expired in January and there were almost no passport hours to be found in Oslo, his son Tor Marius Jenssen (53) tells VG.

– She thought that it was not so dangerous with a new passport, considering her age and how many places she needs to go where she has to show a passport, says Tor Marius Jenssen.

– Then suddenly a letter came from DNB which said that she had to show valid identification otherwise they close the customer relationship, he says.

He says that Anna Regina is not so driven on the internet and needed help.

The birthday plan

Many people have to renew the passports at once after the corona and the manufacturer struggles to get enough components to produce the passports.

The waiting time to get a passport is now up to seven weeks, but before that you actually have to get a passport hour.

– I was daily in the Oslo police district to find hours. Some appeared, but they were in August or September, says Tor Marius.

Then he got an idea: he wanted to combine 80th anniversary celebration and pass time.

– I tried several places, then free hours appeared in Tromsø. One of the lessons was on her birthday. And she is originally from Kvænangen in North Troms. She has also lived in Tromsø, he says.

– Travel to the districts!

At 13.30 on Friday, Anna Regina (now 80) finally got her passport arranged, which according to the plan will arrive in the mail in maybe seven weeks.

– I have a friend who went to Setermoen to get a passport. We had class here in Tromsø today. If you go to the districts, you get a passport, says Anna Regina to VG.

Friday night she celebrates her birthday with her son and friend Turid Mortensen.

– There is no point in being so picky that you should only have a passport in Oslo. You have to travel around a bit, says the 80-year-old.

Dissatisfied with DNB

Due to new money laundering rules from the authorities, bank customers must re-identify themselves, including with DNB.

She says she had an agreement to show her passport when she received it.

Still, she got new constantly new reminders.

– It’s been a hell of a time. Not much service to get there. I had an agreement with DNB to come down with the passport as soon as I got it. It did not help. There was a constant reminder, says Anna Regina.

– Finally, I received a message in which I perceived that the account could be closed within 14 days. It’s not possible. They need to sharpen up, says the 80-year-old.

MUST HAVE IDENTIFICATION: The authorities require banks to collect new identification for a number of customers due to money laundering rules.

Sorry wrong

DNB says that customers should disregard reminders if they already have an agreement to show their passports or other documentation.

– In some cases, there have been reminders to obtain documentation even though documentation has already been submitted in writing or an agreement has been made. There are reminders that have come out wrong and we apologize. Then an error has occurred, or we have not had time to register the documentation, says spokesman Vidar Korsberg Dalsbø in DNB to VG.

He says that there are a number of ways you can identify yourself (see list in fact box).

– Either you can show up at the office or send in documentation by post. Many people who live in pig-ridden areas far away from a branch do so. Then it will take some time before the mail arrives and then there will be processing time. Then there may be reminders in the meantime. We have been clear in the dialogue with customers that you can then ignore the reminders, he says.

– We have opened up for drop-in customers who want to identify themselves and have increased both staffing and extended opening hours, he adds.
