“So I need to say a few things. First, the government decided to relax the usage policy masker,” said Jokowi in a statement broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube, Tuesday (17/5/2022).

Jokowi allowed the public to take off their masks when doing outdoor activities. However, you must still wear a mask when in a closed room and on public transportation.

“If people are active outside the room or in open areas that are not crowded with people, they are allowed not to wear masks.

However, for activities in closed spaces and public transportation, masks must still be used,” he said.

Previously reported, President Jokowi emphasized that the government did not want to be like other countries which immediately implemented a policy of removing masks. According to him, the government will see the situation during the transition period over the next six months.

“I don’t want to be like other countries taking off masks right away, no. This is still a transition period, about six months we’ll see what it looks like, then please take off your mask outside the room, if you’re still wearing a mask indoors, “said President Jokowi in his press statement after reviewing the Formula E Circuit, Jakarta, Monday (25/4/2022).

The President added that there are a number of stages that must be passed and the government will not be in a hurry in making policy decisions. According to him, the government also has a number of experiences when dealing with spikes in cases of the Delta and Omicron variants of Covid-19.

“There are stages that we don’t need to rush into. Regardless, we have experience with what Delta was like, what Omicron was like, so we still have to be careful and alert,” he said.
