Airbus prepares its employees for making ” bitter “

Further reductions of production rate are to consider for Airbus that may be required to make decisions, “bitter” and “difficult” for the job “before the end of July,” said the president executive of aircraft manufacturer european.

In a letter sent to around 140,000 employees of the group and published in the journal The Forum Saturday, Guillaume Faury tells them that he has an “intent to return” to them “before the end of July with more details” on the “accommodation plan” of the group, which has already reduced by 40% its production for 2020 and 2021 compared to the previous forecasts for these two years, in order to face the crisis of the Covid-19.

“Significant reduction of the format of our business”

According to Mr. Faury, the level of air traffic in 2019 will not be met at the global level prior to 2023 “the best” of, “or even 2025”.

“The crisis in the aviation sector will be long and of such a scale that it requires that we take greater measures than those already taken at Airbus, explains the responsible.

“The magnitude of the crisis of the Covid-19 for our sector requires Airbus to adapt. This adaptation in fact means a significant reduction in the format of our company. After decades of uninterrupted growth, it is a real test. It forces us to decisions bitter,” said Mr. Faury in his letter which also mentions the need for “courage” in the face of “difficult decisions”.

“These decisions are, unfortunately, necessary to protect the future of our business,” said the officer.

10% of workforce at least at Boeing

In front of senior executives of the group, he had already indicated that a restructuring plan consisting of job cuts would be necessary.

“We are determined to preserve as much as possible the know-how of the company”, underlines Mr. Faury, “it is also this which explains that we did not hurry to announce anything earlier”.

The american Boeing, which had already been enmeshed for over a year with the trials and tribulations of its Boeing 737 MAX, for his part, announced at the end of April, the removal of 10% of its staff, and 16,000 jobs.

The Canadian Bombardier expects to reduce its workforce by 2,500 positions, when to engine manufacturers, aerospace and General Electric, and Rolls Royce, they have announced, respectively, 12.600 and the 9,000 workforce reductions.
