According to South Korea: North Korea is testing missiles again

The South Korean military called on the neighboring country, isolated due to its nuclear weapons program, to stop testing immediately. UN resolutions prohibit North Korea from testing ballistic missiles, which, depending on their design, can also carry nuclear warheads.

According to the information, the rockets flew about 410 kilometers at an altitude of up to 50 kilometers. Further technical details would be examined together with the US authorities. The South Korean armed forces would monitor the situation in the event of further missile tests.

Before the latest missile test, the North Korean state media had reported that ruler Kim Jong Un had directed an artillery target “on the western front” on Friday. It was a competition between large units of the People’s Army.

Pyongyang has been driving missile development for years

Most recently, North Korea fired rockets on March 9. According to South Korea, various types of multiple rocket launchers were used in the winter exercises of the North Korean military. North Korea had resumed testing a week earlier – after a three-month break. In early March, it was the country’s first missile test since late November.

Pyongyang has for years been driving the development of missiles that could be equipped with nuclear warheads. It is therefore subject to harsh international sanctions. Since the failed second summit between North Korea and the United States in Vietnam in February last year, the nuclear negotiations between the two countries have made no progress.

Meanwhile, the parliament in North Korea announced its spring session for the next month. The meeting of the Supreme People’s Assembly in Pyongyang will be held on April 10, the state media reported on Saturday. The people’s assembly abroad is also known as a dummy parliament. Decisions of the ruling workers’ party are largely ratified at the meetings, which are convened only once or twice a year.
