A Passenger With No Flying Experience Lands Plane After Pilot Fainates

FLORIDA, KOMPAS.com – A passenger without flying experience landed a plane in Florida after its pilot suffered a medical emergency mid-flight.

Reported from BBC on Thursday (12/5/2022), in live audio of a call made to air traffic control at Fort Pierce Tower the unidentified passenger was heard warning: “I have a serious situation here.”

“My pilot became incoherent,” the man radioed from about 2,750 meters in the air. “He passed out,” he added.

Asked about his position, he replied: “I don’t know.”

The mysterious man only said that he could see the Florida coast in front of him.

“Maintain wing height and try to follow the coast, either north or south,” the air traffic controller told him. “We’re trying to find you.”

The passenger didn’t even know how to turn on the screen in the cockpit: “I can’t even turn on my navigation screen,” he told the tower.

“It (the screen in the cockpit) has all the information on it. Do you have any ideas about that?”

“I don’t know how to stop the plane,” he added. “I don’t know how to do anything.”
