A great threat to Putin, London figured out how to punish him

London is considering supporting a special international tribunal to try Russian President Vladimir Putin for the war in Ukraine, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said in an interview with Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Honcharenko on Times Radio. She explained that the London cabinet was looking for an effective way to hold Russian leaders accountable for horrific war crimes.

The Ukrainian government is calling for a special international tribunal to try Putin and Russian government officials for crimes against Ukrainians.

Liz Trass said Ukraine was supported in gathering evidence such as witness statements and videos. The British government wants to prosecute those who have committed war crimes, including sexual violence and attacks on civilians, she said.

In March, British Justice Minister Dominique Raab promised the country full support in launching a war crimes case against Putin and his military commanders in Ukraine. Thus, they will not be able to leave Russia due to the risk of arrest, he noted.

Raab added that the West must show strategic resilience in the prosecution of war crimes, and recalled that in the past there had been skepticism about whether Slobodan Milosevic, Radovan Karadzic and Charles Taylor could be tried, who were eventually convicted.
