a concept still too vague for the French

Thanks to video games, young people are more familiar with the virtual world called “metaverse”. For their elders, the concept is much more vague, even completely unknown. Under these conditions, it is hardly surprising to note that investments involving this “parallel world” still attract only very few French people, despite the enormous sums injected into it.

The metaverse still deserves to be known

A recent survey looked at the relationship that the French have with the metaverse, this virtual world where one must evolve through an avatar and where one reproduces actions of daily life.

The survey essentially focuses on whether or not individuals know about the possibilities of real estate investments in this alternate reality.

Indeed, as in real life, it is now possible to acquire land or real estate in the digital world. And the sums at stake in the transactions are also almost similar to those in reality since they can easily reach millions of euros.

But for the moment, according to the results of the investigation, few French people are interested in this investment.

The survey reveals that the proportion of French people who have already carried out a real estate transaction or another related operation in the metaverse does not exceed 4%.

Even more surprising, 77% of respondents do not know that it is possible to buy land, build a house or even take out cheap home insurance in this virtual world.

Prudent investments

Unsurprisingly, the people who have chosen to invest in metaverse virtual real estate mostly belong to the 18 to 34 age group. More generally, only 3% of the 35-49 year olds who responded to the survey have acquired a property located in this digital universe still little understood by many.

Even if 27% of respondents believe that virtual real estate can be more profitable than in the real world, potential investors remain cautious: only 4% are ready to devote more than 50,000 euros to it. The majority (53%) of respondents are more measured and do not want to spend more than 10,000 euros.
