The meter keeps climbing. Muriel Pénicaud, Minister of Labor, revealed that as of March 27, 220,000 companies have applied for partial unemployment for 2.2 million workers, to the “Grand Jury RTL / Le Figaro / LCI”.
“As of Friday evening, we had 220,000 companies who had asked for partial unemployment for all or part of their employees. This is 65,000 more than the day before,” said Muriel Pénicaud. The requests concerned “2.2 million workers” on Friday evening, “600,000 more” than Thursday, she added.
Last Tuesday, March 24, Minister of Economy Bruno Le Maire announced that 730,000 workers were now affected by the reinforced short-time working scheme due to the coronavirus health crisis. The previous count, Sunday March 22, reported 560,000 employees in this situation.
