Touba: 16-year-old teenager arrested with counterfeit banknotes

Claiming to be an apprentice mechanic, a 16-year-old teenager was referred to the Diourbel district court this Friday for the detention and circulation of counterfeit notes, Seneweb learned from a source close to the prosecution.

The respondent was arrested by the police with counterfeit tickets last Monday around 8 p.m. at the roundabout of the old Touba bus station nestled in the Darou Marnane district. After bargaining with a mango seller, SMN gives her a 10,000 franc note. The lady suspected the authenticity of the note and reassured the 16-year-old boy to wait for her to look for change.

The mango seller took the opportunity to vilify him with the police on duty at the old garage roundabout in Touba. The latter arrested the respondent who had before him another counterfeit note of 10,000 F.

Asked about the origin of the two counterfeit notes, SMN claimed that he had sold his Itel brand telephone at the level of “Réseau bi” located at the Ocass market. The buyer would have given him 20,000 francs.

But during his police custody in Touba, he is caught up in his past. Indeed, one of his friends had given him his motorcycle on July 03. But SMN had not been found since then. He sold the said motorcycle before taking refuge in Mbacké.

The victim, DW had come to the Touba special police station to file a complaint against him. After interrogation, the police were heartbroken that it was the holder of the counterfeit notes who was involved in a case of breach of trust.

Heard following the complaint of his friend, the defendant admitted having sold the motorcycle for 100,000 FCFA before going to take it easy in Mbacké. He claims to have been faced with financial difficulties.
