Threats to the journalist Nello Scavo for his investigations into Malta

The correspondent of the newspaper Avvenire Nello Scavo, known and respected for his work on the trafficking of migrants and Libyan prisons, was explicitly threatened via Twitter: “Stop your dirty traffics or we will stop you”.

The author of the message is not just any person: it is Maltese Neville Gafà, former coordinator of Prime Minister Muscat’s office and former director of projects at the island’s ministry of health. It is the same Gafa who did not respond to Daphne Caruana Galizi’s requests for informationa, except then making the reporter’s cell phone public and spreading a stolen photo of her with her husband on the social networks – a disturbing detail – on the eve of her assassination.

Caruana Galizia placed Gafà in the “corrupt clique of Muscat”. The Times of Malta, among other media, reported man’s meetings with Libyan militia leaders who manage illegal detention centers (and therefore trafficking) of migrants, and before that he attributed a role in the “visa racket” on the island.

Threats to Excavation have declined in the plural because they include the humanitarian organization Alarmphone, a sort of switchboard of the Mediterranean for migrants’ requests for help, which on June 27 received the SOS of 95 people who could have been saved by the Mediterranean volunteer ship and were instead intercepted by the Libyan coast guard: six dead , the survivors back to the detention centers, including a baby born on board.
