The drama of Hollywood stunt woman Olivia Jackson – BZ Berlin

Olivia Jackson (36) was one of the best. She doubled Oscar winners like Charlize Theron. Fee: up to 22,000 euros a month. Hollywood loved the daredevil woman. But then she had a bad accident.

In “Resident Evil – The Final Chapter” she was supposed to shoot a motorcycle scene for Milla Jovovich. However, because the camera crane was moving too late, she hit it at 70 km / h while filming in South Africa, almost paying with her life. She was in a coma, had severe facial injuries, a torn lung and lost her left arm.

But whoever thinks that Hollywood cares about its worst fates, is wrong. Milla Jovovich posted a little dismay on Facebook. But nobody visited Olivia Jackson in rehab.

And no producer, no film studio offered to cover the costs of their recovery or to support them. Hollywood’s performance was anything but cinematic. So Olivia Jackson went to court and sued. For years she fought – and won.

But the victory is bitter, because they will not get the millions requested. “I can never work in my job again,” she says. “I find the behavior of these people hideous.”

According to South African law, the only financial support comes from an accident victim fund. However, the sum is limited to nine percent of the previous wage. According to the lawyer, this is a maximum of 13,500 euros per year.

But Jackson doesn’t give up, gets support from husband Dave – who also works in the stunt industry.

“He accompanies me to all examinations and rehabilitation measures,” says Jackson, who ironically calls herself “One Armed Bandit” on Instagram. And despite severe phantom pain, she practices martial arts.

“And I’m glad I still have an arm,” she says with a laugh. “Laughter is so important.”
