Prices start at 178,900 francs.
How much power is enough for the most powerful version of a brand’s flagship? BMW believes that 530 hp (390 kW) is enough for its best SUV, the X7 M50i. A reasonable value compared to the competition: The new Cadillac Escalade comes with 420 HP (309 kW), the Mercedes GLS manages 490 HP (360 kW) without AMG, and the Range Rover already comes up with 565 HP (416 kW) ). Only the smaller brothers of the X7, the SUV pair X5 and X6, receive an M version with 600 hp (441 kW)!

The motor
But there is an X7 that can keep up – only it is no longer a pure BMW. The officially recognized refiner Alpina has taken on the SUV flagship of the Munich carmaker and has put a luxury steamer with plenty of power behind the gigantic kidney on the street. For this, the XB7 gets the same 4.4-liter V8 engine that Alpinas 7er B7 has under the hood. The biturbo petrol engine delivers 621 hp (457 kW) and 800 Nm. Larger diameters of 54 millimeters for the turbochargers and a modified engine control ensure the additional power of almost 100 hp.

The mileage
To ensure that the opulent engine performance is best possible on the road via the 8-speed automatic transmission, Alpina installs an electronically controlled limited slip differential on the rear axle. The 2.7-ton all-wheel drive sprints to 100 km / h in 4.2 seconds. The top speed of the Alpina XB7 is 290 km / h. For the high speeds, the undercarriage can be lowered by up to four centimeters to improve the road position by a lower center of gravity.

The technology
For increased body rigidity, Alpina has given the XB7 a dome end wall strut and torsion reinforcements on the underbody. The rest is done by the electromechanical stabilizers for active roll stabilization and a stiffer bearing connection in the rear axle area. BMW’s sports department M is wide-eyed – and customers will be delighted because they had long been demanding a real sports version of the X7. The XB7 also lives up to a real sports version when it comes to fuel consumption. 13.9 liters are quite generous!

The price
In addition to sportiness, luxury is not neglected either. The dimensions of 5.15 meters long, two meters wide and 1.80 meters high ensure a pompous appearance. On the inside, Alpina puts another neat luxury shovel on top for the up to seven occupants. Of course, that comes at a price from CHF 178,900. But that’s what the long-awaited sports version of the X7 is finally here for! Deliveries start in December.
