Assassin’s Creed: the secondary missions of the first game were added in 5 days!

Released in 2007 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 then the following year on PC, Assassin’s Creed launched the start of a major video game saga, and Ubisoft is preparing to release a new opus with the Vikings at the end of the year. But the first title got older, the gameplay is rigid, and besides the main quest, there is not much to do, besides climbing points of interest to reveal the map and some missions to help NPCs. Well, imagine that originally, these secondary objectives did not exist … five days before the launch ! And we owe them … to the son of Yves Guillemot!

It’s Charles Randall, programmer on Assassin’s Creed, who told this unusual story on Twitter today. Back in 2007, the game was almost finished, the studio proud of the work accomplished and the title would pass gold, and therefore go to the pressing, five short days later. But now, crucial information fell for the developers: the son of the CEO ofUbisoft had played Assassin’s Creed, and he found it boring, with little to do. Panic in the studio, who decided to launch an improbable plan: create and implement side missions in Assassin’s Creed in just five days, without bugs if possible, because switching to gold had to be done right after this deadline. Charles Randall says that he gathered as many computers as possible in the conference room, and that he ended up with four or five other developers to design these additional lenses. There, it’s a little fuzzy in the memories of the programmer, but the mission has been accomplished, and he is rather proud of the end result … except thatthere was still a bug in these elements added at the last moment.

Yes, Charles Randall apologizes to the players, but a secondary mission has a small problem, which also prevents having all the Success or Gamer Points. It’s very silly, a target must be murdered, but sometimes it passes through the background. The player is not considered the assassin, and therefore does not have his points, but the game believes that the target is dead, and therefore does not make it reappear. Very frustrating for players who like to finish their games 100%, but this is the only known bug after five days of hard work …

Since then, the franchise has evolved well, with opus completely bugged at launch, and shutters teeming with secondary objectives a little more interesting than those of the first episode of the saga. As a reminder, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is expected at the end of the year on PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS5 and Xbox Series X, you can already pre-order it at the Fnac against € 59.99.
