The transfer window has been open for 1 month. The football clubs are therefore currently in the midst of negotiations to develop their workforce for the 2022-2023 season. With the COVID crisis, several clubs are suffering financially and are reduced to operating at lower costs. ASSE is one of those clubs looking for good deals on free or free players, but they are not the only ones!
ASSE has seen several players from its professional squad go free since June 30, 2022. These are Khazri, Hamouma, Boudebouz, Nordin, Kolo, Sako, Ghezali, Diousse, Trauco, Mangala, Benkhedim, Petit, Leleux, Aymar Llort. The deadlines for the 2021-2022 season ended at the end of May. Therefore, players are able to sign on to a new project, yet they struggle to find new challenges.
Hamouma, Khazri, Nordin and Llort
They are 4 to have found a new club. Wahbi Khazri and Arnaud Nordin will not leave each other next season. Indeed, they have signed up with Montpellier Hérault to play in Ligue 1. Romain Hamouma has offered himself a possible last freelance on the island of beauty. He signed in Ajaccio for a period of one season and will try to help the club of the son of Galtier to stay in Ligue 1. Finally, Lucas Llort, the left back and vice-captain of the reserve has signed up in national 2 with the RFC Canet club. He finds the south and gets closer to his training club of Montpellier. Finally, nothing is official yet but it seems that Victor Petit has found a new project. The midfielder was waiting for a sign from ASSE but will finally sign with Rennes.
Mangala, Sako and Diousse
The 3 players are looking for a new project. Their Stephanoise adventure did not necessarily value them. Eliaquim Mangala had great difficulty facing the swift attackers of L1 and clearly showed his limits. At 31, it seems difficult for the central defender to find a very ambitious project. Bakary Sako came to help the club. No longer having his 20-year-old legs, the left-handed winger will have been more a man of experience and locker room than a sporting added value. At 34, it will be difficult to find a project in L1. It remains to define what will be offered to him. Finally, Assane Diousse, the man represented by a certain David Wantier will have completed 5 seasons in the Saint-Etienne jersey. After a very high-flying first match, fans will remember an excellent teammate but a player who often struggles in Ligue 1. The 25-year-old has still not found new projects for the 2022-2023 season.

Boudebouz, Trauco and Kolo
The 2 senior players from last season have had complicated seasons. The first has never really succeeded in imposing himself at ASSE where for 3 years he will never have convinced the green people. The second will have had a nightmarish last year, notably being attacked by the supporters of Geoffroy Guichard. The 2 men with high salaries are struggling to find a new challenge. Although they are each talking while waiting for an exciting project, it does not seem to be rushing at the gate… just like a certain Miguel Trauco! Probably the fault of their Stéphanoise adventure which did not value them!
Ghezali, Benkhedim, Aymar and Leleux
The 3 young players are also looking for a new challenge. Ghezali is currently training with the UNFP team in order to keep fit while waiting to find a club. Benkhedim talks to him on his side. A time announced on the side of Chateauroux, “BB10” has not officially signed! Leleux is still on vacation and has no advanced contact with a particular club, just like Louka Aymar.
The ASSE 2021-2022 season has not lived up to the club’s standing. Nevertheless, the players at the end of the contract are not invaded by the proposals. Although the financial situation of some clubs slows down the speed of negotiations, it’s a safe bet that the salaries offered to some on the side of the State were well above the real value of the players.
