On the 16th, local time, President Yoon Seok-yeol visited the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates, the first nuclear power plant that Korea won an overseas order.
The Baraka Nuclear Power Plant is the first nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirates. It is a project to build four APR-1400 nuclear power plants of KEPCO in the Barakah area, 270 km west of Abu Dhabi, the capital.
The first nuclear power plant started operating in 2020, and two units are currently in operation.
When the project is completed and all four reactors are in operation, it is expected to be responsible for 25% of the UAE’s electricity production.
It is known that the order for the Barakah nuclear power plant is worth 40 billion dollars, including 20 billion dollars for the construction sector and 40 billion dollars for operating rights such as technical support and driver training.
