(Seoul = Yonhap News) The Japanese government internally decided to cancel the Tokyo Olympics scheduled for July this year due to a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), the British Daily The Times reported on the 21st (local time).
The Times reported this, citing Japanese passport officials, and said that the Japanese government is focusing on hosting the 2032 Olympics.
The Japanese government immediately denied it.
Japan’s Ministry of Defense Minister Manabu Sakai said on the 22nd that “there is no such fact, it is clearly denied.”
He added, “At what stage, of course, we will judge whether it will actually be held, but until then, of course, I am thinking that the Japanese government will properly prepare the work to be done and the work to proceed.”
Although it has not been decided internally to cancel the holding of the Tokyo Olympics at this stage, it is explained that in the future, the event will be decided by looking at the spread of Corona 19 infection at home and abroad.
This is the first time that the Japanese government, which has been emphasizing that the Tokyo Olympics will be held as scheduled in July, has officially stated that it will determine whether it will be held in the future.
