[영상] 100 Days of Hijab Protests in Iran… ‘Special Demonstration’ Led by Gen Z and Women

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Iranian anti-government protests sparked by the mysterious death of Mahsa Amini (22), a 20-year-old woman arrested for not wearing the hijab properly, celebrated their 100th day on the 26th (local time).

The longest-running anti-government protests in Iran since the 1979 Islamic revolution are shaking the Iranian regime and costing the Iranian people enormously, the BBC reported.

There have been large-scale anti-government protests in the past, but this time protesters are from all walks of life, celebrities are at odds with the government and women and young people are leading the protest, so the BBC said this protest is ‘ special’ unlike the previous ones was evaluated.

In particular, among young people who have resisted the regime’s religious oppression by ‘burning the hijab’, the BBC reported that the ‘taking off of the turban’ of vested-interest clergy is spreading as a new trend.

According to the Iranian news agency for human rights activists (HRANA), more than 500 people, including 69 children, have been killed so far in the protests. Two protesters were sentenced to death and at least 26 people are expected to be executed. Amnesty International (AI), an international human rights organization, criticizes the fact that they were sentenced to death after a show trial.

It is also known that 18,000 protesters were arrested and 60 security forces died while cracking down on the protests.
