A subcontractor worker in his 50s fell from a crane on a highway construction site in Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do, and died eight days later.
However, at the time of the accident, DL E&C, the construction company, did not take appropriate measures, such as canceling the 911 report.
Journalist Jang Seoul-gi talked about it.
◀ Report ▶
On the 20th, a highway construction site in Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do.
At 7:39 am an SUV arrived and moved near the crane.
Ten minutes later, at 7:49 am, the trunk door closes as if it were loading something into the car and then exits the scene.
This is a photo of a subcontractor in his fifties, who fell from 3 meters while working on a crane on a construction site, on an SUV and transported to the hospital.
Why was it an SUV instead of a 119?
Not that there weren’t any 911 calls.
This was reported by a colleague of the injured man immediately after the accident.
Looking at the transcript obtained by the reporting team at the time, the reporter said, “A person has fallen” and shouts to those around him, “Please seek conscience.”
Rescue teams arrived immediately, but 8 minutes later an unexpected phone call came.
The same reporter deleted the report saying: “I don’t think I’m seriously injured, so I’m taking him to the hospital.”
The injured man arrived at around 8:20 am at the company’s designated hospital, about 7km from the scene.
However, the ruptured aorta was so bad that the hospital couldn’t handle it.
Eventually, I was transferred back to Seoul National Medical Center, about 35km away, and arrived around 11:20 am.
Daytime surgery was performed that day, but the man eventually died after 8 days.

“(The doctor) seems to have a lot of internal bleeding, but if you do it and it hurts, it’s a very important part, so you could die during the operation …”
The grieving family raises the question of why they could not come to 119, which was on the move.
It is strange that, even in a critical situation, it was moved to a normal vehicle without first aid facilities without the doctor’s advice, and it was not moved faster.

“That’s a distance you have to travel 8 to 9km on the highway, so it doesn’t make sense to say your car is faster (than an ambulance). When it’s time to go to work.”
A site official at the time said, “The construction company, DL E&C, requested that the 911 call be canceled.”
DL E&C said: “Since the victim was able to breathe and speak for herself, we decided it would be effective to quickly transfer the treatment to the site rather than waiting for the emergency services.”
The construction union pointed out that in some cases the 119 report was canceled to cover accidents at work, but DL E&C replied by saying: “The accident was reported three days later”.
The grieving family filed a complaint with the Ministry of Labor and Labor and the police against the CEO and president of DL E&C.
