[국제]Myanmar and military-related companies spread boycott of products

Civil disobedience movements are accelerating, with the spread of product boycotts by military-related companies in Myanmar.

According to local media such as Irrawaddy, immediately after the coup that took place on the 1st, a boycott of military products began with young people through social network services.

A massive cash withdrawal campaign took place at Miyawadi Bank, owned by the military, and the bank has limited daily withdrawal limits and number of people.

Also, Myanmar beer has disappeared from City Mart, the largest local retail chain since last week.

The famous food and beverage chain in Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city, released a poster for Myanmar beer on the 24th and declared that it would not sell products of military-run companies.

Convenience stores such as ABC also stopped selling Myanmar beer and Mitel’s mobile SIM cards at most stores in Yangon, following a warning that they would boycott stores that handle military products.

The Myanmar military is known to have gained interest by intervening in a wide range of businesses such as telecommunications, beer, tobacco, marts, banks, and food and beverage.
