All domestic aircraft equipped with engines of the same family as the Boeing 777, which caused engine failure in the United States, have ceased operation.
The government has ordered special engine inspections for the aircraft, and additional measures such as replacement of parts will soon be prepared in accordance with follow-up measures such as the Federal Aviation Administration.

Of the Boeing 777 aircraft that Korean Air had been using for short-distance and domestic flights until recently, two aircraft with the’PW4000′-series engine were excluded from the flight schedule.
Of the 16 Boeing 777 aircraft equipped with the’PW4000′ series engines, two of the new engines with low aging were finally suspended.
A Korean Air official said that although the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has not taken measures, it has voluntarily decided to suspend the operation.
As a result, all 29 aircraft of this type owned by domestic airlines, including Korean Air, Asiana and Jin Air, were suspended.
In the meantime, the government ordered a special engine inspection for the aircraft.
It was instructed to re-submit non-destructive testing of the fan blades of the’PW4000′ series engines, that is, the fan blades of the engine, which were investigated to have been damaged during the US accident.
After the engine fan blade has been inspected, it will be re-inspected before 1,000 uses, and repeated inspections are re-performed every 1,000 uses in the future.
The usual overhaul of engine fan blades is done when the take-off and landing cycles reach 6,500 times, but to shorten the inspection cycle to check for cracks inside the fan blades.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport explained that there are 24 aircraft that have been used more than 1,000 times after the recent inspection, and that operation is prohibited if the inspection results are not satisfied.
He added that the Federal Aviation Administration could subsequently order emergency airworthiness improvement orders, that is, important defects that could have a fatal impact on aircraft airworthiness.
Accordingly, additional instructions such as replacement of parts are expected to come out soon.
