A woman who extorted billions of won from her husband in China has been ordered by a court to return all the money to his death.
According to the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP), Mr. A, a founder of an IT company in his 40s, met Mr. B, a woman 6 years younger than him, in Beijing through an online matchmaking service in March 2017. The two were married on June 7 of that year and divorced on July 18 of the same year.
Mr. B received cash, a car, etc. from Mr. A in this process. Mr. A belatedly looked at her money and found out that she was married, and notified her of her divorce to Mr. B. Mr. B threatened to expose the corruption of the company to Mr. A while negotiating her divorce.
In the end, Mr. A agreed to divorce by giving Mr. B an apartment and 10 million yuan (about 1.9 billion won). Mr. A, who could not overcome the bitterness after his divorce, made an extreme choice two months later in September. Mr. A wrote in his suicide note that he was “desperate” and regretted signing the divorce agreement.
The survivors of Mr. A filed a lawsuit against Mr. B for the return of property, and the court sided with the bereaved family. The court ordered Mr. B to return the property of more than 10 million yuan from Mr. A.
