It is known that former President Moon Jae-in delivered donations to his hometown, Geoje, Gyeongsangnam-do.
Geoje City announced on the 26th that former President Moon had donated 5 million won to donor Moon Jae-in through the hometown love donation online window ‘Hometown Love e-Eum’ ahead of the Lunar New Year’s Day on the 13th.
Former President Moon was born in Myeongjin-ri, Geoje-myeon in January 1953. His parents fled to Geoje when they evacuated Heungnam during the Korean War. In the case of former President Moon, he lived here until the age of six before moving to Busan.
There are observations that former President Moon’s donation activity this time came out of his extraordinary affection for his hometown.
In fact, former President Moon said in his autobiography, “I left when I was young and I don’t have many memories left,” but also said, “It’s my hometown and it’s a place where my parents fled, so I always think of it fondly.” At the same time, he also revealed his thoughts, saying, “When he was at the Blue House, he always cared about requests to help with issues in the Geoje area.”
Meanwhile, it is said that the birthplace of former President Moon still remains in Namjeong Village in Myeongjin-ri, Geoje. After he won the presidential election, it is said that it became so popular that it was once called a tourist attraction.
However, it was revealed that it was a private property and that no special projects had been carried out until the time of retirement at the request of the Blue House to refrain from any discussion regarding the birthplace during the Moon administration.
