Maxdorf / Presidential Area (ots)
In rural areas, in particular, there is often the problem that the deployment locations are difficult to reach with the large patrol cars. Forest areas, banks of the Rhine and pedestrian zones are just a few examples. A solution was found in 2020 at the suggestion of the Maxdorf police station: where there is no space, less horsepower is needed. The Rheinpfalz Police Headquarters has therefore come to the decision to increasingly rely on the original horsepower. After an extensive training and preparation phase, we are finally able to announce that our pilot project “Reiterstaffel des Police Headquarters Rheinpfalz” is entering the open phase.
The Rhineland-Palatinate police may now welcome their two newest members “Bibi” and “Tina” with a freshly completed and passed exam. The two horses will be stationed together with the trained riders in Maxdorf, where they will from now on support the operations of the local police station and the Frankenthal police station. When they are not on the so-called chase ride, the newcomers to the police station are mainly used in drug processing. With their very sensitive nostrils and their natural familiarity with grass, the animals are ideal as sniffing noses and will support the officers in Maxdorf in their fight against drugs.
The pilot project will be evaluated over the next twelve months in order to be able to use the results to examine an expansion to the whole of Rhineland-Palatinate. Both policewomen are excited about the coming time: “My colleague and I both come from equestrian sports, so we are even more pleased that we can now combine our passion with our profession.” The head of the police chief inspector Frank is also delighted with the addition of the police station. “I am looking forward to the time together and we will definitely carry a carrot in our pocket one time or the other,” he reports with a laugh.
We hope that the two newcomers will settle in quickly and wish them successful assignments!
