On Wednesday, August 4th, 2021, at around 9:33 p.m., the Linz / Rhein police station received a report about a black Mercedes C-Class, the driver of which was presumably drunk. The witness driving behind him described that he had been driving behind him in the direction of Linz since entering Bad Hönningen. Between Bad Hönningen and Ariendorf, the Mercedes suddenly got into oncoming traffic, whereupon an oncoming driver had to perform a dangerous evasive maneuver in order to avoid a collision. Furthermore, the Mercedes driver ignored the red signal at the traffic lights B42 / Am Sändchen in Linz and entered the intersection. There he had made an emergency stop and only drove on after several other road users honked the horn. At the entrance to the town of Kasbach-Ohlenberg, the vehicle was finally stopped by the Linz police station. A breath alcohol test carried out by the driver showed a value of 2.02 per mil. The police officers secured the driver’s license on site, which is why he is no longer allowed to drive a car in traffic from now on – until a court decision has been made. Furthermore, the 44-year-old will have to assert himself in criminal proceedings. Relevant information, in particular from witnesses of the journey or people who were endangered by the Mercedes driver, should be sent to the Linz / Rhein police station on 02644-943-0.
