45279 E. Horst: Because of a disturbance of the peace, the police were called to an apartment in an apartment building on Geschwister-Scholl-Strasse on Monday morning, July 13th, around 2.15 a.m. While the officials admonished the 22-year-old resident and his 23-year-old alleged partner to calm down, a puppy came towards them. The puppy was evidently a listed dog, for whose keeping special papers are necessary. Since the 22-year-old could not show this and no other papers were available for the dog, the animal should be taken to the police station for further clarification of the origin. The 22-year-old didn’t agree and walked towards the balcony. The officers tried to hold on to the man, but he was able to free himself from the policemen’s grip, throw one of the officers’ arms aside and climb over the railing of the balcony with the puppy in his arms. Then he jumped with the dog in his arms from about six or seven meters from the balcony and landed on the meadow. There he left the dog and fled on foot. Requested support staff looked for the 22-year-old, who, however, returned to the apartment on his own some time later. The deployed officers took the drunk man into custody. The police took him to a hospital for further investigation into his possible injuries.

The heavily drunk 23-year-old alleged partner resisted the officials when they announced follow-up measures in administrative assistance for the youth welfare office in Essen. One policeman was slightly injured during the resistance.

The children of the family were handed over to the care of the youth welfare office. The puppy was taken to a veterinary clinic. The 22-year-old and the 23-year-old are being investigated for resisting enforcement officers and for various violations of the TierSchG. / bw
