45329 E.-Altenessen-Nord: A serious solo accident occurred yesterday afternoon (February 22) on the street Sturmshof, corner of Gladbecker Strasse, where the driver of a Mercedes G-Class overturned. At 4:44 p.m., a witness reported the vehicle on the roof to the police emergency call. Several patrol cars and rescue workers immediately drove to the scene of the accident. According to the current investigation, the 43-year-old Bottroper drove the “Sturmshof” in the direction of Gladbecker Straße. Shortly after the underpass at the Rhine-Herne Canal Bridge, he lost control of the vehicle, got off the road, collided with several bollards, a traffic sign and a fence, rolled over and then landed on the roof. He crashed into a Citroen parked on the feeder, which was also badly damaged. Fortunately, none of the inmates (43/36) were seriously injured by the accident. Rescue workers took the two inmates to a Essen hospital as a precaution. A breath alcohol test carried out on site substantiated the suspicion that the driver might have driven his vehicle in an inoperative manner. An ordered blood sample was taken from him in the hospital. The investigation by the traffic commissioner is ongoing. (ChWi)
