Meteorologists warn that East Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia may be hit by exceptionally strong storms with torrential rain and stronger gusts of wind in the afternoon. On Thursday afternoon, they were extremely strong, especially in the south of Bohemia. In Vimperska, they measured an hourly rainfall total of more than one hundred and forty millimeters.
Meteorologists canceled the previous warning against heavy rain, which applied especially to the Jizerské hory and Krkonoše mountains. “The area of expected high totals has moved north out of our territory,” they said. During showers and rain today, it can rain around 30 liters of water per square meter only in the Šluknovské and Frýdlantské outcrops.
The new storm warning covers the entire Pardubice region, part of the Vysočina and Hradec Králové regions, and also the whole of Silesia and Moravia with the exception of Znojmo and is valid from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. “Thunderstorms will occur in places, occasionally they can be strong. They will be accompanied by short-term intense rain with totals of around thirty millimeters and stronger wind gusts. Storms will move in an easterly direction and will weaken rapidly in the evening,” meteorologists said on the X network.
Thursday’s storms were extreme
On Thursday, the Kubova Huť station recorded an extreme. “It measured over one hundred and forty millimeters of rain during the entire storm episode, at the time of the highest intensity it was one hundred and nine millimeters per hour,” meteorologists said on the X network. The second highest total was in Boubín, namely seventy-nine millimeters. Due to the torrential rain, firefighters had to intervene in Vimperek and nearby villages, for example in Kubova Huti they were removing mud from the track.
