Lionel Messi is nearing the end of his international career and one of the players the 35-year-old shared the field with the Argentine national team was Gonzalo Higuaín.
Higuaín has announced his retirement from football once Inter Miami’s season is over. In a recent interview with DirectTV Sports, Messi spoke of the harsh criticism that the former Napoli and Juventus striker had to face.
The veteran top scorer is best remembered for missed goals in Copa America and FIFA World Cup which, according to Messi, are not a fair assessment.
“He was mistreated by an industry of journalism; people consumed him and he took him out on the pitch, “said Messi.
“Higuain’s situation was terrible because he had a spectacular career. What he did was very difficult because he played in the best teams in the world, always acting, scoring goals, becoming champions and that’s where he was scored by Copa América, by the world.
