Kante suffered the injury in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham in August

France and Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante was barred from the World Cup in Qatar after undergoing surgery for a hamstring injury.

Kante, 31, suffered an injury while on the Chelsea side 2-2 at home against Tottenham August 14.

In a statement, the club said the procedure was successful, but Kante is expected to be out for four months.

He added that the decision to act to repair the damage was “mutual”.

“The midfielder visited a club medical service specialist to explore options for his rehabilitation approach,” the statement read.

Blues boss Graham Potter said before his team played Aston Villa last weekend that Kante had suffered a setback in trying to get back into shape.

Kante, who won the World Cup with France in 2018, joins a growing roster of Premier League players who have suffered serious injuries ahead of the key tournament starting in November.
