Zwolle mayor issues an emergency order after signals about riots

The municipality of Zwolle has issued an emergency order for the center for tonight. Between 4.30 pm and 5 am, no one is allowed to enter the center without good reason.

The municipality expects disturbances at a demonstration on the Grote Kerkplein, about which flyers have been distributed. “The demonstration has not been registered and we have tried to get in touch with the organization,” Mayor Snijders told RTV East. “But that didn’t work out. So there is a lot of uncertainty, which is why we call on everyone not to come to the center.”

Security Risk Area

“In addition, we have received signals that people want to go to the city center tonight to stir up unrest and not to protest. This made me decide to issue an emergency order and designate the city center as a security risk area.” This means that preventive searches may be carried out in the area.

The municipality asks residents and entrepreneurs to bring bicycles, benches and flower pots inside.
